Evidence shows what is known and where it applies.
A useful monograph connects a formulation with its source and conditions of use. The final editorial presentation keeps that scope visible in each record.
Formulation identity
Evidence is assessed against the exact chemical form, strength, material grades, process, container and storage conditions. Changes require separate assessment. Sharing an active ingredient or a similar name does not transfer every conclusion.
How beyond-use dating is determined
A beyond-use date (BUD) is tied to specific evidence and conditions. A general compendial limit is identified as such. Where a formulation-specific study is needed, the record states what must be demonstrated. A commercial ingredient's shelf life or another formulation's data do not automatically apply to the finished preparation.
Water activity: measurement for a defined purpose
Water activity (a_w) describes water availability and is assessed through an appropriate measurement procedure. A reliable value cannot be inferred from an 'anhydrous' description, water percentage or formulation calculation. Samples, conditions, calibration and acceptance criteria are defined before testing.
Stability: more than one measurement
An a_w measurement alone does not establish chemical stability, dose uniformity or suitability for every patient. Stability assessment addresses the critical chemical, physical and microbiological attributes of the specific formulation. Unavailable laboratory results are not presented as completed testing.
The scientific decision for each record
Records with a defined implementation route are used within their documented scope. Specialist records state the conditions for that setting. Literature records without a sufficiently supported preparation route are presented for study and do not enable execution or scaling. Clear classification is a final editorial decision, not a claim that unavailable tests have been completed.
Scientific editing and local responsibility
Stasinos Chr. Sikalias is responsible for collection and scientific editing. This edition does not claim independent external validation. Before implementation, the responsible professional assesses suitability, approves local documents and ensures the necessary testing and records.
Sources, originals and rights
Source provenance, edition and locator are retained where available. A pharmacopoeia or publisher reference identifies the source; it does not imply official approval or republication permission. Licensed originals are accessed through the rights holder's lawful access route. Permission requests are recorded in the source register with their actual status.
Corrections with a change record
A documented correction identifies the record, exact passage, proposed change and primary source. Following assessment, changes are recorded in a new revision so readers can identify the edition they are using.
